With a ten year freeze on electricity rates at an end, Illinois businesses and homeowners are beginning to feel the rise in energy costs. While solar and wind have some potential to reduce energy costs in the long term, solid state technology available today can help dramatically decrease energy costs. A lighting relamp, using the more efficient fixtures available today, can reduce energy costs dramatically. Businesses and schools can save tens of thousands on electrical bills, and get a return on the relamp investment is several years. We’ve got to start to think in the long term. The federal government is already offering tax breaks to organizations that invest in energy saving technology ( ESCO ), and it’s a great time for Illinois businesses to make a change.
